Bespoke Journey

We pride ourselves on succeeding as the leading maker of custom, bespoke furniture. Our commitment to quality starts from sourcing the finest materials to hiring skilled craftspeople for every part of the manufacturing process. Each stage has a small team of makers who specialise in that specific skill. They all bring a serious level of expertise to the process. Follow our bespoke journey with us, and become inspired by the possibilities you can achieve.

“There is a requirement for experience and skill here, and that product intelligence is what makes Larkbury such a unique place for our makers to work.”

1.

Design Consultancy

When you visit our gallery, you will meet with your personal design consultant who will be with you throughout your whole bespoke journey. They will take the time to understand your space and the dreams for your new piece. Your design consultant will guide you through the extensive back catalogue of designs, fabrics, studs, woods, metals and all the other options on offer.

2.

Measurements & Layout

Our interior design team will visit your residence or commercial property to take room measurements in order to better understand the potential of your space and to make sure your selected furniture fits perfectly. If required, one of our talented Interior Designers can also be present on site.

3.

CAD Drawings

Once you have created your design, our CAD team will render it into 3D and add detail drawings for our production team to follow. We may require more measurements or further details to make sure you are happy with the final design.

From this stage, you can take the CAD drawings for a small fee of £50 or you can continue the bespoke journey with us.

4.

Carpentry

Many of our skilled joiners have been in the business for over 10 years, utilising their craft is more than a hobby for them – it is an art form. The centre of all our upholstered products starts, of course, with the frame, and therefore we only accept the very best. We use solid hardwood beech for all our frames to create a robust foundation.

5.

Body Work

This step consists of applying foam, springs and webbing to the frame. We use different densities of foam and different spring sizes to offer various comfort levels for our upholstery. We also use recycled foam to reduce our impact on the planet.

6.

Pattern Cutting

With your chosen fabric, we will cut a pattern to match the contours of your new upholstery piece. This stage requires a huge amount of skill because every fabric is slightly different depending on pattern, texture and composition. The cutting part of the process could take up to 3 hours. The cutters need to be mindful of wastage as to not waste the client’s chosen fabric, so the cutting is done traditionally – by hand.

7.

Sewing & Filling Cushions

The fabric has been cut and is passed to the sewing department, who sew all of the cushions together, add zips and sew the body pieces together.

We use a carefully calculated combination of duck down and duck feathers. The down feathers provide the softness and the initial sinking feeling for all important comfort. The feathers are slightly bigger and also provide comfort but also the sturdiness needed for the cushions to keep their shape over time. The feathers are filled into a cotton lining and then inserted into the sewn fabric cushions.

8.

Upholstery

Once the body of your new piece has been sewn, it can be stapled to the frame. This takes care to ensure the fabric is not ripped and the patterns match the frame. Any chosen studs or further haberdashery and details will be added at this stage.

9.

Assembly and Quality Control

All of the pieces are brought together, the upholstered frame is paired with the cushions and legs are attached if not connected to the frame. There are various stages of production and a very strict quality control inspection at the end. Although there are various stages, there is only ever one maker who works on one piece within their field of expertise. This encourages ownership over the production and each maker has time to focus and complete their work.

We will wrap the product immediately after quality control, ready to deliver. Our delivery team will be in touch with a time to suit you and provide a white glove service.
