How to dress your fireplace this festive season

3 minute read time

The festive season is right around the corner and we've been talking with our expert designers to offer you style tips on how to decorate your homes this Christmas. Our interior design team has been working hard to come up with the best ways to create a festive feel while maintaining a sense of luxury. Read on to find out how to create the ultimate festive aesthetic this Christmas.

The fireplace as a focal point

A fireplace is often the focal point of any room, and this is a great excuse to dress it beautifully. By draping elegant natural garlands across the mantlepiece, placing a trio of candles at one end to offset the symmetry, and by hanging a striking piece of art on the wall above, you’ll draw everyone’s eye directly to the hearth. Be sure to choose colours that complement your fireplace’s palette to create a sense of unity with the decorations. Make sure not to clutter the space and have only a few elements of decoration to bring the space to life. When dressed effectively the fireplace can quickly become a talking point.

A festive touch

Simple knitted stockings in festive colours hanging from the fireplace, topped with candy canes and holly leaves are the perfect way to integrate Christmas into your front room setting.

Bring your tree close to the fireplace, as the greenery of your tree and garlands can tie together and have a greater impact than if they were dispersed more widely. Keep the decorations in the same style as those on your mantlepiece and you’ll have an elegantly balanced living room – think soft gold and bronze tones mixed with natural décor like pine cones and holly leaves with red berries.

Accompanying furniture

The Arctic coffee table with a beautiful marble top oozes elegance while remaining neutral enough to blend in with the rest of the interior décor. Its soft, organic lines pair beautifully with the Teign circular gold wall art on the wall behind it, unifying the two pieces effortlessly. The marble and gold work in harmony to bring an extra dose of luxury to the room’s otherwise minimalistic style.

The Charlotte occasional chairs provide balance and symmetry in any living room and when placed side-by-side they offer the ideal opportunity for a drink by the fire. With their sleek dark wood detailing spanning the arms and the curved backrest, and their luxurious deep-buttoning, the Charlotte chairs epitomise luxury contemporary design. Hand-crafted by our master artisans, these occasional chairs are built to stand the test of time and have a lifetime frame guarantee.

Our Aram serving plates bring this festive scene together. Gilded in a rich golden coating, the serving plates are not only stunning and eye-catching designs in their own right, but they also marry beautifully with the Teign wall art behind them. It’s small details such as these serving plates that really unify a room’s décor.

Make it a family affair

The festive period enables families and friends to come together and the fireplace can be the perfect spot to gather around during a night of entertainment. Think board games on the coffee table, while the fire burns on in the background; movie nights cozying up on your Charlotte chairs; or hosting drinks around the hearth, until the last ember has gone out.

The last two years have been trying for us all, and with the restrictions around the festive period last year, it feels all the more special to enjoy this year’s festivities among loved ones – here’s hoping that the festive spirit will be alive and kicking for us all. Whether you have a large or a small fireplace to decorate – or even just a mantlepiece to work with – we hope that our tips can help you style yours with confidence, and allow you to proudly show off your hard work when hosting guests this festive season.
