Tell us a bit about Wells & Maguire Interior Designers, how did you start the business.

Wells and Maguire was founded in 2018 by Emily Holder and Danielle Marsh. After working in the high-end design and property developing industry for over 18 years combined, Emily and Danielle decided to set up on their own, offering their knowledge, passion, and creativity to the interior design world.  The Wells and Maguire studio provides interior design and architectural services to both private clients and developers all over the UK.

Tell us a bit about the Manor House project…

We completed the Manor House project in July 2020, helping the clients transform their busy family home into a tranquil and calming space for the whole family. The Grade II, early Tudor Manor House dates back to 1485 and has many historic characteristics, which made this project even more special.

What was the client's brief when you received this project?

As a large family of 7, we wanted to create a calming place for the family to relax and enjoy time together, but also adapting to their busy lifestyles. The clients loved beautiful pinks and blush tones, so we made sure we incorporated these tones into the interiors. The family is from a musical background so creating a space that was solely for music was very important. We also created a space where the five children could relax, watch TV and socialise with friends, this fun environment was important for such a busy family.

How did we support you with this project?

In the family music room, which was based around the beautiful Bechstein Grand Piano, we included the stunning Mouna curved sofa, curling elegantly around the Allegri round ottoman. We wanted this space to be classic and comfortable for the family to sit around and listen to the beautiful sounds of the musical instruments.

The home is truly stunning, were there any challenges? How did you overcome them?

The main challenge was the renovations to the Master bathroom and boudoir and the decoration in general because we had to work around the family’s schedule. The project was delayed due to COVID-19 and travel restrictions but as soon as things started to open, we were able to complete and install the project.

What was the most satisfying part of the project?

The beautiful Haberdashery chandelier we installed above the stairwell in the hallway, the cascading chandelier holds 180 individual porcelain leaves with gold edging. The light feature is subtle but with great impact, twinkling from the light cascading through the large double height window.

What is your favourite room for the Manor House Project?

The Master En-suite we designed has had the most impact on this project, once an old and forgotten space, housing boxes of clothes and old treasures, is now a beautiful bright space with a free-standing bath and unique walk-in shower, built within the original turret of the Grade II listed Manor House.
